photo's of subject matter
As dinosaurs aren't around a lot, i had to take photo's of some little toy's, this gave me an idea of what they looked like and things to work on when creating my final piece. |

others work ~
These books influenced me whilst i was creating my final piece as they all show a variety of conventions of form. For example, most of them use about three quarters of the page for the illustrating for the audience of their book which is children. I will use this technique in my book because its for young children and it will stop them from becoming distracted with too much text. I also liked how the drawings were simple within some of the books, which I will try and emulate in my final piece.

experiments ~
For my first experiment i used mono print and went into it using black and white acrylic, to add more atmosphere. |
For another one if my experiments, I tried out screenprinting using a trio of colours. |

flat plan ~
Firstly I did a flat plan for the children's book Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. As it is a children's book I thought it would be helpful in seeing how they are laid out and created. |
Next I did a flat plan for the book that I was creating. I did all of the pages in the book and tried to take inspiration of certain elements for the flat plan I did for Room on the broom, for example, a similar number of pages. I also laid the pages out differently, for example I did full illustrations with a small amount of text so that children focused more on the illustration than the text. This helped me to decide which pages I wanted to do for my final piece.

process of end cover
This is the inked print that i did with my lino design. I then edited them in photoshop to make them look clearer. |
I then made the print into a pattern stamp, then covered the A3 sheet with the print. |
I tried adding colour to the pattern to see if it worked well, i did it by using the lasso tool and many layers. |
I decided that colour didn't suit the pattern so i went back to the black and white. |
The final touch was to turn it landscape, so that it fitted the book cover. |
