others work ~

These books influenced me whilst i was creating my final piece as they all show a variety of conventions of form. For example, most of them use about three quarters of the page for the illustrating for the audience of their book which is children. I will use this technique in my book because its for young children and it will stop them from becoming distracted with too much text. I also liked how the drawings were simple within some of the books, which I will try and emulate in my final piece.

experiments ~

For my first experiment i used mono print and went into it using black and white acrylic, to add more atmosphere.
For another one if my experiments, I tried out screenprinting using a trio of colours.
Additionally, my last experiment is a pattern stamp, of which i used in my final piece. I created the pattern by using lino scanning in the print, then used the picture in photoshop and went to edit -> define pattern. This created the pattern, which then i could use for my end pages.

flat plan ~

Firstly I did a flat plan for the children's book Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. As it is a children's book I thought it would be helpful in seeing how they are laid out and created.

Next I did a flat plan for the book that I was creating. I did all of the pages in the book and tried to take inspiration of certain elements for the flat plan I did for Room on the broom, for example, a similar number of pages. I also laid the pages out differently, for example I did full illustrations with a small amount of text so that children focused more on the illustration than the text. This helped me to decide which pages I wanted to do for my final piece.
